During February, pupils from most of the schools in Kempston got together at Daubeney to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Following on from the success of that event, on 17th June Daubeney played host again to a multi-school celebration of the Chinese Dragon Festival.

This activity-filled event involved children in craft work, calligraphy, drama and traditional Chinese, filled dumpling tasting. The day ended with a tag-team racing game, inspired by the traditional dragon boat races associated with the festival.

My thanks go to all staff involved from the participating schools and especially to our two Chinese colleagues who have worked so hard throughout this year to teach Mandarin and give our pupils fascinating insights into different aspects of Chinese culture

This Kempston-wide initiative has been so successful that all participating schools have agreed to continue the link with China next year and we have been promised an additional Mandarin specialist (making three in total), so that each school will be able to make even greater use of this fantastic resource.
